She began her end of life journey in 2017. That was the year she had a mild heart attack and major open heart surgery. After surgery, her health continued to degrade as she suffered from diabetes, kidney disease and congestive heart failure.
Over the next five years, she was in and out of the hospital regularly suffering from the progression of those chronic diseases. She had over twenty 911 emergencies and a dozen trips to the Intensive Care Unit while in critical condition. She literally spent hundreds of days in the hospital.
She was constantly in out-patient facilities getting either kidney dialysis or blood transfusions. All through this very difficult process, she always had me and other family members by her side comforting her with companionship and support.
Unlike Shirley, many seniors have to go through very difficult terminal illnesses without any companionship and support. Our mission to help fill this void with our friend network.
